Scout’s tip

Scout’s thrill tip

Teens can often ride in their own group while parents do gentler rides with siblings. Agree a meeting point and time before you split up.

  • Check height limits on the park website
  • Use single rider queues
  • Ride the biggest coaster first thing

UK thrill parks

  • Thorpe Park (Surrey): built around big thrill rides.
  • Alton Towers (Staffordshire): famous coasters plus areas for little ones.
  • Blackpool Pleasure Beach (Lancashire): historic wooden coasters and big modern rides.

Europe and the US

  • Phantasialand (Germany) and Europa-Park (Germany) for richly themed coasters.
  • PortAventura (Spain), including Ferrari Land.

Height rules and safety

Every ride has a minimum height (and some a maximum). They’re strict, so measure before you go and check the park’s ride guide. People with certain medical conditions are often advised not to ride intense coasters: read the signs at each ride.

Queue hacks

Arrive before opening, use single rider lines and save the big ride for the last hour too. More in theme park queue tips.
