Merlin Annual Pass changes: what families need to know

The Merlin Annual Pass line-up has changed. Discovery and Silver are gone, there’s a new Essential pass, and Blackpool’s attractions are no longer included. Here’s what it means for you.

If you had a Discovery or Silver pass, it stays valid until it expires. At renewal, compare the Essential pass’s exclusion dates with when you actually visit.

  • Essential has the most exclusion dates, especially in school holidays
  • Gold covers almost every day
  • Platinum adds extras like parking at selected parks

What changed

  • Discovery and Silver passes are no longer sold. Existing passes remain valid until they expire.
  • The Essential pass is now the entry-level option, with more exclusion dates during peak periods.
  • Gold and Platinum continue, with Gold covering almost every day and Platinum the most flexible.
  • Blackpool attractions (the Blackpool Tower, Madame Tussauds Blackpool, SEA LIFE Blackpool and Sandcastle Waterpark) are no longer included on new or renewing passes.

Who should pick which pass?

If your family can visit in term time or on quieter weekends, Essential may be enough. If you can only go in school holidays, look at Gold. Our full Merlin Annual Pass guide explains how to work out whether a pass pays off.

Visiting Blackpool?

Price Blackpool’s attractions separately now. Check for current offers, such as Kids Pass deals, and see Blackpool Pleasure Beach, which has never been part of the Merlin pass.

Frequently asked questions

Is my Merlin Silver pass still valid?
Yes. Existing Discovery and Silver passes stay valid until their expiry date. When you renew, you’ll choose from Essential, Gold or Platinum.
Why can’t I book Blackpool Tower with my Merlin pass?
Blackpool attractions have been removed from new and renewing Merlin Annual Passes, so you’ll need a separate ticket.
