Helmet on, lights go green, foot down. Go-karting is one of the most exciting days out for kids and teens, and parents can join the race too.

Scout’s tip

Scout’s karting tip

Look for junior sessions with smaller, slower karts, and family sessions where adults race too. Every track sets its own age and height rules.

  • Wear closed shoes and long trousers
  • Tie back long hair
  • Listen carefully to the briefing

Ages and heights

Most tracks set a minimum age and height for junior karts, and higher limits for adult karts. Some indoor tracks offer cadet karts for younger children. Check the track’s website before booking. The rules are strict.

What to expect

  1. Safety briefing and flags explained.
  2. Helmet (and often a race suit) provided.
  3. Practice and qualifying laps, sometimes a race.
  4. Lap times on a screen, often with a podium at the end.

Safety first

  • Follow marshals’ flags at all times.
  • No bumping: most tracks penalise contact.
  • Tell staff about any medical conditions.

More wheels fun in karts, skate parks and bikes.
